Cities around the world are continuing to invest in rapid transit projects as an affordable and reliable way of connecting people to job opportunities and leisure activities. As of October 1st, 2013, the transit experts at <a title=\"Article on www.EMBARQ.org\" href=\"http:\/\/thecityfix.com\/blog\/over-300-brts-around-the-world-bus-rapid-transit-number-luisa-zottis\/\" target=\"_blank\">EMBARQ<\/a> have reported a total of over 300 bus corridors around the world, spreading to 163 cities across 38 countries.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve discussed BRT systems around the world before, focusing on <a title=\"Curitiba, Brazil: a model city for transit use\" href=\"http:\/\/vivanext.com\/blog\/2009\/06\/12\/curitiba-brazil-a-model-city-for-transit-use\/\" target=\"_blank\">Curitiba, Brazil<\/a> and <a title=\"Bus Rapid Transit: South America leads the way\" href=\"http:\/\/vivanext.com\/blog\/2011\/09\/13\/bus-rapid-transit-south-america-leads-the-way\/\" target=\"_blank\">South America\u2019s leading role<\/a> in rapid transit development. Now, cities in places from Indonesia to South Africa have bus corridors in operation that are positively impacting their growing urban landscapes.
