Then more and more parts are added, and by the middle of the song everyone is singing or playing different parts, all in harmony. For York Region\u2019s rapid transit system, 2016 was the \u201cmiddle of the song.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The prototype station opened in 2011 in Markham, followed by a 10-kilometre rapidway opening in 2013 and 2014 on <a title=\"project page for the Highway 7 East rapidway\" href=\"http:\/\/www.vivanext.com\/highway-7-east-markham\/\" target=\"_blank\">Highway 7 East<\/a>. In Richmond Hill, a LEED Silver-certified <a title=\"project page for the transit facility in Richmond Hill\" href=\"http:\/\/www.vivanext.com\/transit-facility-richmond-hill\/\" target=\"_blank\">transit service facility<\/a> opened in 2015. The <a title=\"project page for the Davis Drive rapidway\" href=\"http:\/\/www.vivanext.com\/davis-drive-newmarket\/\" target=\"_blank\">Davis Drive rapidway<\/a> in Newmarket opened for service in 2015, with some final work completed last summer.<\/p>\n<p>Along with finishing Davis Drive, 2016 projects included important utility and prep work along Yonge Street <a title=\"project page for the Yonge Street Newmarket rapidway\" href=\"http:\/\/www.vivanext.com\/yonge-street-newmarket\/\" target=\"_blank\">in Newmarket<\/a> and <a title=\"project page for the Yonge Street Richmond Hill rapidway\" href=\"http:\/\/www.vivanext.com\/yonge-street-richmond-hill\/\" target=\"_blank\">in Richmond Hill<\/a> \u2013 temporary traffic signals, median work and retaining walls, new hydro poles, water main and gas main replacements. Similar work is being done for the rapidway <a title=\"project page for the Bathurst and Centre rapidway\" href=\"http:\/\/www.vivanext.com\/bathurst-centre\/\" target=\"_blank\">on Bathurst and Centre Streets<\/a> in Vaughan, and <a title=\"project page for the Highway 7 Woodbridge rapidway\" href=\"http:\/\/www.vivanext.com\/hwy-7-west-phase2\/\" target=\"_blank\">along Highway 7 west of Highway 400 to Helen Street\/Wigwoss Drive<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"project page for Highway 7 West VMC rapidway\" href=\"http:\/\/www.vivanext.com\/highway-7-west-vaughan\/\" target=\"_blank\">Highway 7 in Vaughan<\/a> was a symphony of activity in 2016, with construction wrapping up east of Jane Street to Bowes Road, and work moving ahead quickly on the large rapidway station west of Jane Street that will connect directly to the Toronto-York Spadina Subway Extension.<\/p>\n<p>Bus terminals are planned <a title=\"news release for media event for SmartCentres Place Bus Terminal\" href=\"http:\/\/www.vivanext.com\/newsroom\/related\/mediarelease\/bus-terminal-to-be-built-in-vaughan-for-york-region-transit\/\" target=\"_blank\">in Vaughan<\/a> and <a title=\"project page for Cornell Terminal\" href=\"http:\/\/www.vivanext.com\/transit-facility-cornell-2\/\" target=\"_blank\">in Markham<\/a>, and in 2016 those projects worked through the \u201cbackstage\u201d steps of design and procurement.<\/p>\n<p>A high note in 2016 was the announcement from the Province of Ontario of $55 million in funding to advance the design and engineering for the <a title=\"project page for the Yonge Subway Extension\" href=\"http:\/\/www.vivanext.com\/yonge-subway-extension\/\" target=\"_blank\">Yonge Subway Extension [YSE]<\/a>. The YSE is York Region\u2019s top transit priority, and we\u2019re committed to working with Metrolinx, TTC and the City of Toronto to move this project forward.<\/p>\n<p>In <a title=\"vivaNext system map\" href=\"http:\/\/www.vivanext.com\/project-map\/\" target=\"_blank\">our plans<\/a>, 2016 was the year we knew most of our projects would be happening, all at the same time, and it was busy! 2017 will be full of accomplishments too, and there are even more rapid transit projects planned for the future.
