Now take this situation and apply it to transit.<\/p>\n<p>Now more than ever, commuters have a variety of options when it comes to choosing how to get from A to B.\u00a0 New options include ridesharing platforms \u2013 for example Uber and Lyft.\u00a0 Commuters tend to gravitate toward these because everything can be done on a smartphone \u2013 from ordering a ride, to payments, tips and ratings.<\/p>\n<p>A common misconception is that ridesharing services are going to compete with and eventually replace public transit and make it obsolete.\u00a0 This could not be further from the truth. According to a <a href=\"https:\/\/info.masabi.com\/hubfs\/Masabi%20Transit%20Survey%20Report%20-%2008-1.pdf?t=1525831672259&amp;utm_campaign=Rider%20Research%20Report%202018&amp;utm_source=hs_email&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_content=62816310&amp;_hsenc=p2ANqtz-8AJ1E5WiW6gEWotq0yCQlcBouK5DzJG6LpDVV8WN_WBu1orSJvgAjy7EVCtBpodiy4kRCFwkokO_rBtJT5t_rY5TVf7Q&amp;_hsmi=62816310\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">2017 study done by Masabi<\/a>, it was reported that:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>35% of respondents are now combining ridesharing with public transit to reach a destination on at least an occasional basis<\/li>\n<li>7% are combining ridesharing with public transit at least once a week<\/li>\n<li>95.5% of weekly rideshare riders use public transit, pointing to a future that could include less car ownership and more use of both public and private shared transportation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Commuters who pair ridesharing with public transit see an innovative and greener future where everyone benefits from more choices. Travellers are creating a demand for Mobility as a Service [MaaS], where trips are planned together across all modes and systems.
