With Centre Street\u2019s long-term lane closures opened again \u2013 and two lanes of traffic are flowing both eastbound and westbound  \u2013 drivers will have relief. It\u2019s the perfect time to take a fresh look at traffic movements and safety in the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>good habits are key when it comes to safety<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During the heaviest construction periods, a number of\ndrivers may develop habits of cutting through residential streets that are\nmeant for local traffic only as a short-cut around construction. Oftentimes,\nhigher volumes of traffic and excessive speeds are noted on roadways meant for\nquiet, residential neighbourhoods. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We understand and acknowledge the inconvenience and frustration\nof construction. However, it is important to remember the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>stick to the main arterial roads and avoid\nresidential short cuts<\/li><li>obey posted speed limits<\/li><li>watch for pedestrians crossing<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>a\nproject designed with quality of life in mind<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The new streetscape on Centre and Bathurst streets is\ndesigned with the people of the community top of mind. It\u2019s becoming a more\nwalkable and beautiful area with wider, tree-lined sidewalks with updated\ninfrastructure and easy access to rapid and local transit \u2013 and many places to\nlive, work, shop and play. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As the community grows and people adopt new travel patterns, we drive positive change together. Bus rapid transit and subway connections are a key part of planning for change and growth.
